Event Description

Our horsemanship clinics are designed to train and work with the horse and rider at whatever level they might be at. During the initial training, it is irrelevant whether the horse is going English or Western. The clinics are designed to improve communication between horse and human whether it be a completely green horse/rider or national level dressage or reining competitor. Our training process takes a very progressive approach for both horse and rider based on “training before schooling”. We teach the basics and then build on them until the horse & rider are ready to be schooled for a specific discipline or maybe just go for a quiet enjoyable trail ride.

In 2008 these clinics will also prepare those students aspiring to go to Chris Irwin’s Train the Trainer program and his new format of certification. Chris will be revamping his “Train the Trainer” program in 2008 by downloading some of his training responsibilities on his existing trainers. For example: you will be able to get your training through Symphony Stables and then go to one clinic with Chris, be tested and then certified.
These clinics are great for training horses with problems like:
Standing for mounting
Biting, kicking
Bucking, rearing, runaways
Spooking in the show ring or on the trail
Problem picking up feet
Trailer loading

If your horse is already going well, we can help with:
Getting nicer upward or downward transitions from walk, to trot, to canter
Get them bending, stretching and working on true collection from back to front
Get nicer leg yield maneuvers for: half pass, sidepass, haunch turn etc. by making full use of timing and proper use of leg and seat aids
Long lining and preparing for driving

Our horsemanship clinics are 2 days in length and are limited to 6 people. This number of people insures that each participant gets at least 2 hours of one on one attention with either Walter or Gisela on each day. The clinic starts at 9 AM with one hour of theory. Once the theory is done we divide into 3 groups of 2 . Each group of 2 comes into the arena for one hour. Each person has a coach to themselves for the hour. This continues until all six people have had a one hour lesson. We break at around 1 PM for lunch. We take one hour for lunch, debrief, and then everyone returns for one hour lessons again in the afternoon. In the evening of the first day we have a group dinner for participants who choose to take part.

Price for 2 day clinic is $295.00 GST included. Auditor fees are $20.00 per day. Clinic includes breakfast and soft drinks throughout the day. Stall rental is also included if you bring your own horse. There is however a fee of $5.50 per day to cover bedding cost per stall. For people from out of town who need to use one of our horses there is a fee of $30.00 per day. This covers the cost of horse and stall. Lunch is available for purchase on the farm at a very reasonable cost of $5. Group dinner Saturday night is free for the paying clinic participants. Others who wish to join in group dinner are welcome to join us for a very reasonable cost of $15. Click here for accommodations available close by.

Deposit of $150.00 is required upon booking clinic to reserve your space. First come first serve basis. Deposit is refundable only if someone is able to fill your space.

Horses attending clinic must be up to date on their vaccinations. Horse owners are responsible for their own feed, and daily cleaning of stalls. We provide the bedding. We ask that you leave the stall in the same condition it was in when you arrived.

People using our horses are responsible for cleaning their stalls and feeding during the clinic.
