I have a mare who is stall kicking and causing injury to her legs. It has been suggested to use "mac boots" on her feet to help absorb the shock of her kick. I have never used these before. Does anyone have any experiences with them and any suggestions on how to best use them??! Thanks, Janet

Why not attach some stall mats on the walls where she kicks to absorb the shock?
Don't have enough mats to cover all the area she kicks. There are marks 6' up the walls! Thanks, Janet
Well she is going to hurt more than her legs kicking THAT high silly girl!!!
Have you thought of trying kicking chains?
Yes, and she stands and looks at you and then kicks with them on her legs. She has been on stall rest for 4 months and is just now starting turnout again. She has been much improved, and i am hoping it will continue!!?? If she continues to kick when in, i like the idea of the 'mac boots', but want to know if they could cause her any injury? Janet
Ahh, a fiesty mare! I love her!
I used to have a 16.3 1/2 liver chestnut alpha mare! She would always give me the 'bring it on' look and attitude no matter what I put at her.
I am sorry that I haven't heard of these mac boots. How about trying a couple of diapers on her feet for padding with some duct tape over them to see how that goes first?
LOL, thanks for the idea....i will keep it in mind!
I dont know about mac boots but I have found that stall kicking sometimes comes from boredom - a salt lick toy or ball hanging from the ceiling might take her mind of stall rest and stop that kicking
thanks for the reply........have tried it all...... Janet
Hi Janet
I have been using Old Mac boots on my mare for about 3 years on trail and really like them. You may want to go on the company web site for more info if you haven't already. The boots are about $120 - $140/pr. (I use Cavallo's in the arena, so can't quite remember) They last about 9 mnths to a year as 2x week trail boots. If you are leaving them on you will also want pastern wraps to avoid chaffing. They should not be used over regular shoes. Personally I would be concerned with leaving them on all the time. While they stay on very well, a caught boot could cause a real panic. The only time I have left Belle's on for more than just riding is when she was being treated for an abcess and I was removing them to treat her twice daily. Hope this helps.
Thanks so much for all your helpful info! I believe from what you are saying, it would not be a good idea to leave them unsupervised....definitely do not want her to get the boot caught on anything while she is kicking!!!!
thanks for you help! Janet
I have them for my husbands QH. He has sensitve feet and I don't want to shoe him. He uses the Old Macs for trail rides, but I have never heard of using them for stalling kicking
thanks for your input.
