We are close ( and have a week left to break the record) to the wettest June in history. Today is the 20th and it has rained 17 of those 20 days. People from Portland OR are calling and wanting their weather back. Trails are sloppy muddy and trees are dripping wet.

My daughters didn't want to ride today, So I pulled up the calendar on the internet and saw that the local Back Country Horsemen group was doing a day ride nearby. So I feed the horses early and decided I would go join them for the day. The weather forecast was for rain to start in the afternoons and turn violent in the evening with severe thunderstorms and wind shear. As I was hooking up the trailer at 8:00am it started to rain. some much for sneeking in a ride before the rain. Went back in the house and swapped my straw hat for my felt hat and headed out thinking I was going to get wet. But better a wet ride than no ride.

The ride today was up a canyon called RedRock. It has a lot of prominate Red Rock outcroppings such as this.

We rode 4-5 miles up the canyon, It's a pretty steady climb uphill. Just below the ridge we stopped in a small meadow and ate our lunch.

Out to the west we could see the weather was coming. Dark clouds and rain starting to fall. So we decided it wasn't very smart to continue up onto the bare ridge top and expose ourselves to lighting. So we called it a ride and headed back down the canyon.

The ride master for the day. He enjoys Cowboy Action Shooting and has a lot of authentic western cowboy clothing

And us trying to get off the ridge before the storm hits.

We got a little wet. But not too bad. It has rain steady the remainder of the day. So glad I got what ride I could.
I'm so ready for next weeks hot weather and the return to what summer should be.
