Anyone concerned about loss of horse lands and trails? According to the USDA we are losing 250 acres per hour of farmland, open space and forested lands. That's 6,000 acres per day. At that rate, land equivalent to the size of the Kentucky Horse Park would disappear between lunch and dinner. Consider this, we need at least 36 million acres to feed the 9 million horses in the US. (AHC figures on horse count). Losing trail access? Want more trails? Check out the Equine Land Conservation Resource www.ELCR.org. Your riding or driving club can join as an Equestrian Partner organization and get lots of info, ed materials, email alerts, consultations, and lots of networking with like-minded horsemen.
