Shopping and the economy

Shopping in Canada is really slow right now and my sister in NY says everything is at a crawl, even though we are a few days away from Christmas. What is happening in Europe? Australia? How badly is the economy affecting everyone out there?

I just got back from California and I have to say that my girlfriend and I got some super amazing deals at some of the Regular Malls and also the Factory Outlet Malls there. Like $175. sheets for $6. $200. trousers for $19.99. We each came back with our suitcases loaded with goodies.
