Who uses Myler Bits?

I've just ordered an MB04 and I am very excited to give it a try! I've read the Myler's book and watched the DVD and I truly believe that they have developed their bits from a real knowledge of how to respect and be kind to a horses mouth.

Anyway, "who else out there is using a Myler bit?" What style do you use, what is your discipline, and how do you like the bit you are using?

I didn't see any comments so I am going to comment, but I think they are a bit overpriced, I watched some of his clinics at the mane event along with Jonathan Fields and they are great horse people, but your buying a name with the price. I was looking at level 3 bits, and around $90.00, I found the same thing for about 40-50.00 from Metalab, they looked the exact same. Let me know how it goes for you as I thought they were fantastic bits and fantastic to watch.

I used a ported barrel with a regular D cheek (no hooks) Myler on my QH. At the time we were doing the north american style of Hunters. I had mostly used single jointed loose ring snaffles on him before that and found that he prefered a thinner bit. I borrowed a Myler to try on him when I was having a little difficulty in persuading him to not drop his shoulder after a line of jumps. If he dropped the shoulder he couldn't get his lead changes. It helped me to help him stay balanced so I bought one (had to special order his size). At the time MetaLab was just starting to copy the Myler styles but were only producing 5" bits and my QH needed a 5 1/4".

At first I could and did switch back and forth between the Myler and the loose ring, but I eventually decided that I needed to get him to be as responsive in the Myler as he was in the snaffle if I was going to show him in the Myler. I spent a winter riding exclusively in the Myler, and then found that he did not like the loose ring any more and made it very plain that he would have spit it out if he could. I didn't really mind as I had spent $200 on the Myler so it was a good thing that he liked it.

We did three dressage shows after he retired from jumping and I swapped him out to a loose ring with a french link mouth just for the shows. He didn't like it as much as the Myler, but didn't reject it the way he had the single jointed snaffle either.

There is a big lunk horse where I board who is very happy in his barrel jointed D (no port or hooks) Myler, and a green mare who likes it as well.

Thanks everyone for your comments. If you go to the "videos" section, I have posted a video of our first ride in the Myler with comments. Did some things wrong the first day, but I think I have it figured out now!
