SHOW JUMPING - LYNCH CLAIMS SECOND PLACE IN PARIS GUCCI GRAND PRIX

THIRTY-six year-old Denis Lynch came within an eight of a second of claiming a bumper 99,000 euro victory at the Gucci Grand Prix at Paris this evening (Sunday), but his runner-up spot still yielded a massive 60,000 euro in prize money.

The Tipperary rider was one of 12 through to the jump off from a starting field of 43 at the five-star French indoor show, and though he and Thomas Straumann's bay gelding Abbervail van het Dingeshof finished on one of just four double clear scores, their time was fractions off the pace of Dutch winner Marc Houtzager and the gelding Sterrehof's Tamino.

Lynch used the same horse on Saturday, when he picked up 3,500 euro for a third place in the feature jump-off class, with France's Simon Delestre taking the winner's 7,600 euro on the nine year-old mare Whisper.

Also at Paris, Wexford's 17 year-old Bertram Allen kept up his recent sparkling form with a win in the two-star Masters Grand Slam, aboard the grey mare Molly Malone V.

At the three-star event in Stockholm, Sweden, Cian O'Connor finished in sixth in today's Grand Prix with Ulano, with first place going to local rider Malin Baryard-Johnsson and H&M Tornesch. O'Connor also had four top ten places at Stockholm with Ulano and the Irish Sport Horse ISHD Dual Star, while Jessica Kurten was three times in the prize money with API Largo and Oklahoma de Riverland.
