Candele Strikes Again at Angelstone

ROCKWOOD, ON - Thirty-five horses competed in the $30,000 Pfaffe Modified Grand Prix last night in picturesque EEC grass ring at the Angelstone National Phase II. Fourteen horses went clear in the first round and came back to jump off in what turned into an intense race for first place over the David Ballard designed track.

Yann Candele flew through the jump off course to beat out the other thirteen competitors and won a $9,000 paycheck for his bold ride. His mount Vortex, a ten-year-old Dutch mare, owned by Mark Hayes and Ashlyn Trevelyan jumped beautifully on the grass. Mark was very proud of his horse and said, "She's a very careful mare and always tries her best. She's always been a fighter."

It ended up being a great night for some of Canada's up and coming Grand Prix riders. Karina Aziz aboard Top Gun managed a close second place finish, just behind Candele. Sean Jobin was third aboard Picaso, owned by Michael Grinyer. Finishing fourth was James Gilliam aboard Chanel owned by Maggie Gallagher.

Show jumping will continue through the month of September with the Angelstone International CSI-W, featuring the $100,000 FEI World Cup Qualifier on September 28th.

Carly Campbell-Cooper Cruises to Derby Win
at the Hunter Spectacular

Hunter week peaked on Saturday evening at the Angelstone National Phase II with a beautiful Derby course designed by Jeremy Denouden. Thirty-one riders competed in the $3,000 Canadian Hunter Derby presented by Manning Equine. The spectacular jumps filled the Angelstone Stadium and challenged the riders by providing copious handy options.

Carly Campbell-Cooper put in an impressive round aboard her mount Winston, earning a score of 108. Winston, owned by Amanda Gellis, was jumping in perfect form as Campbell-Cooper expertly maneuvered him around the course for the win. Ashley McInnis piloted Prudence, owned by Carolynne Jardine, to a second place finish with a score a 102. Derby master Hugh Graham ended up in third place with a score of 101 aboard Judgement Day 3E, owned by Kingridge Stables.

The Angelstone Stadium was packed with spectators out to support the hunter talent in one of the most challenging courses designed this year. The riders put on a show for the crowd by showing off their handy skills over the jumps, designed based on natural obstacles. It was a great night for the hunter riders and horses. Congratulations to Carly Campbell-Cooper on her Derby win.

Team Triple C Edges out Team Pink Power
at First Annual Hunter Nations Cup

The first annual Hunter Nations Cup class at Angelstone was a huge success. Seven teams battled it out for bragging rights and the Nations Cup Championship title.

Team Pink Power, led by Grand Prix rider Keean White, held the win throughout the class until the final rider from Team Triple C, Carly Campbell-Cooper aboard Winston, stepped in the ring. Team Pink Power needed Campbell-Cooper to score a 78 (or under) in order to win the class. Always cool under pressure, Campbell-Cooper scored an 80 - sealing Pink Power's fate.

Team Triple C consisted of anchor rider Carly Campbell-Cooper, Sarah Barker, Vanessa Ujarevic, and Kelsey Stapleton. Accessorized in pink from head to toe, Pink Power team members; Keean White, Muffy Guthrie, Jeff Brandmaier, and Leanna Lazarri vowed to be back next year to take the title away from Team Triple C.

Third place went to Team Stoney Fields, anchored by Claudia Wagner-Wilson with team members Taylor Bird, Sidney Jefferson, and Christine Carlsen. The horse and rider combinations were decked out according to their chosen themes; in glitter, face paint, bows, sunflowers, sequins, and braid charms.

The crowd went wild when Pink Power team member Keean White, aboard Kathleen Selke's horse, Gemini, delivered a glass of wine and a pink rose to judge Bobbie Reber. Keean White was riding for Commitment to Educate, Angelstone Tournaments' Scholarship Program, and had the crowd buying 50/50 tickets based on whether he would be given a score (over or under) 80 points. No wine was required, as White cleared the 80 marker by a whopping ten points raising six hundred and eighty dollars for Commitment to Educate, which was generously matched by White and Angelstone announcer, Allan Donnan.
