Leslie Howard and Tic Tac Claim Victory in FEI World Cup Qualifier

ROCKWOOD, ON – On Saturday evening, The FEI World Cup Qualifier got off to a great start as Kristen Coe jumped a clear round aboard ZoJasper in front of a capacity crowd of energized spectators.

Thirty-four of the most prestigious riders ever assembled at Angelstone tackled Oscar Soberon's course with a time allowed of 87 seconds. The course was a challenging track for the talented field of riders. The triple bar located right next to the in-gate followed by an intimidating vertical caused some riders problems as they rolled back to a white skinny vertical.

Russia's Ljubov Kochetova and Aslan sailed over the jumps, clearing each with room to spare. Kent Farrington, currently ranked 2nd in North America, made the difficult track look effortless aboard Uceko, with a stunning clear round. Quentin Judge, handled the pressure of the intense World Cup Qualifier track and put in a clear round as well, securing them a trip to the jump off with his mount HH Wilco.

Tic Tac and Leslie Howard put in a clear effort and snagged the fifth spot in the jump off. The sixth jump off pair, David Arcand and Vledder, had a great week at Angelsone, achieving a second place finish in the Animo Open Welcome on Thursday night. Angelstone Tournaments very own Keean White energized the crowd with his clear performance riding Pironella.

Jay Hayes and Riva showed how comfortable they are in the Angelstone Main Stadium with their second clear round of the week. Quentin Judge jumped last, and cleared the course once again aboard his second mount, HH Donatella.

Nine horses jumped-off, in pursuit of the $30,000 prize, awarded to the winner on behalf of Front Street Capital. Russia's Ljubov Kotchetova, held the lead throughout the jump off. Leslie Howard brought the huge crowd to their feet and cleared the last jump on course with a lightning fast time of 38 seconds for the win beating Ljubov by just a second.

Riding with a broken leg, Howard overcame significant pain and flew to victory to claim the Front Street Capital check at the FEI World Cup Qualifier at the Angelstone International CSI-W.

Angelstone Tournaments would like to thank the park's supporters for an incredible season of world class events. Super Saturday and the $100,000 FEI World Cup Qualifier Grand Prix was the perfect finish to a great season.

Christine Carlsen and Cherrybrook Skye Blue Claim Victory

Twenty seven ponies gathered together at Angelstone's Derby field to participate in the Jump Canada Pony Classic. The sun was out and shining as the small ponies got the class underway, soon to be followed by the mediums and the larges.

The ponies were all given the chance to compete in the first round of competition with only ten ponies returning for a second round. Grease Lightning and Isie Maly scored an 83 in the first round, setting them up for the second round nicely. With an 82.5 in the first round, Christine Carlsen knew she had some ground to make up. "Our second round was better than our first round but I was really happy with both trips." Returning for her second round, Carlsen proved she could handle the heat and left the ring with the high score of 87!

Carlsen has an uncanny ability to keep her cool in high-pressure situations, which gives her that extra edge in two-round classes. Trainer Peter Mulligan was proud of his student and her ability to check her nerves at the door, riding solely based on her skill to deal with what comes up in the show ring.

Cherrybrook Skye Blue has been extremely successful this year with Carlsen in the large pony division. Carlsen only had great things to say about her superstar pony. "His barn name is Sky, he is so special to me. He knows he is really pretty and talented and is always trying to show off for the crowd. I love riding him!"

After two rounds of competition, Christine Carlsen and Cherrybrook Sky Blue took home the victory for the afternoon. Royale Glory and Emma Faulkner took home a well-earned second place finish in the competitive classic. Ashley Keary rode confidently in the grass ring aboard My Wish and finished third overall. Congratulations to all of the Pony Classic competitors!

Graceful Gray Grabs CET REGIONAL FINALS CHAMPIONSHIP

After three phases of competition at the CET Regional Finals, held at Angelstone Tournaments, Nora Gray has been named the CET Regional winner!! Eighteen riders competed over three days with one flat phase, one gymnastics phase and one jumper phase with a final top six ride off. The top six participated in the final rider off where they switched horses with each other and each rode three horses.

The first phase began on the flat. The riders entered the ring one at a time, attempting to complete the dressage phase of the competition. The dressage test demands perfection from the riders, and assigns them marks for every part of the class completed properly. The riders are awarded both a technical score as well as an equitation score. The scores are then combined and averaged for each riders official score.

Samantha VanderWoude put in a round that was absolutely stunning to watch and was given a score of 86.50 from the judges. Ashlee Steffens put in a wonderfully executed round as well and just missed out on the first place ribbon with a score of 86. Alexandra Millar was third, and Nora Gray followed closely for a fourth place finish.

The Gymnastic phase began bright and early Thursday morning, as the riders entered the ring attempting to show their ability to seamlessly manage their horses over the technical track. Ashlee Steffens blew everyone away with a top performance that secured her a score of 88. Jessica Blum tackled the course with precision and earned herself an 83 for her execution of the gymnastic tests. Nora Gray was once again in the top four and received a score of 81 followed closely by fourth place finisher Riley Correia with a score of 78.

Riders returned for the third and final phase of competition on Friday afternoon in Angelstone's main stadium with accumulated scores from their flat and gymnastic phases, which determined their order of go. In reverse order, riders entered the ring in pursuit of a spot in the top six; which would earn them a spot in the famous CET ride off.

Sarah Barker won the jumping phase with a phenomenal crowd-pleasing effort and a score of 87. Ashlee Steffens continued to demonstrate she was a top contender earning a score of 85. Jessica Blum received a score of 84 for a third place finish, and Olivia Mortimer took home fourth place with a score of 81.

The riders nervously awaited their final tallied scores, which would determine who would have the chance to ride off for a spot in the Finals held at the Royal Winter Fair. Ashlee Steffens, Jessica Blum, Sarah Barker, Nora Gray, Paige Mawson, and Samantha Vanderwoude took the top six spots!

The six riders switched mounts in order to demonstrate their ability to master a shorter course on horses that weren't their own. Each of the six riders was randomly assigned three of the other competitor's mounts. One at a time they rode the shorter course on their competitors horses.

Nora Gray proved unbeatable in the ride off, as she was able to adapt her riding style masterfully on every horse she was on! Nora took her time to get to know each mount she was given, with unique warm ups and thoughtful preparation. Nora was seen patting each horse, and attempting to establish a partnership in the limited time she was given. Her patience paid off, and she was declared the winner.

Nora was thrilled with her win, and said "I've been working towards this goal for a long time, and it's amazing to have all the hard work finally pay off!"

Trainer Jen Gray felt that Nora's background as a rider contributed to her win. "She's gotten the opportunity to ride lots of different horses in her career so far, which gave her an advantage in the ride off yesterday. I'm so proud of my daughters accomplishments!"

Ashlee Steffens was a contender throughout the competition, just missing Nora's final score in the top six by two points. Ashlee was calm, cool and collected and showed she had great horsemanship by acclimatizing to each mounts style. Sarah Barker and Paige Mawson also scored a ticket to the finals with a third and fourth place finish.

Nora Gray, Ashlee Steffens, Sarah Barker, and Paige Mawson will go on to compete in the National CET Finals at the Royal Winter Fair in November. Congratulations to Nora Gray and her trainer Jen Gray for their amazing Friday night win at Angelstone Tournaments. Best of luck to all our equitation representatives as they head into National Finals!

Back to the Hayes Days! Jay Hayes and Riva Take Home the Win

On a perfect autumn day at the Angelstone International CSI-W thirty seven horses competed in the $33,000 Open Welcome Presented by Animo.

The high caliber field of competitors enabled course designer Oscar Soberon to design a complex and intimidating course, with a time allowed of 74 seconds. The tight time allowed was a hard test for the riders, claiming many horse and rider combinations as victims.

Quentin Judge was the first of many to be unable to beat the clock with his mount HH Wilco, incurring a time fault for being two seconds over the time allowed. Jonathon Millar aboard Calvin Klein also managed to pass all the jumping tests, only to take away a time fault for their efforts.

Russia's Ljubov Kochetova had a battle with the clock on both her mounts, scoring one time fault with Aslan and two aboard Balou du Reventon. Kristen Coe fought the clock as well on her mounts Chin Quin and Veron scoring two with the former and one with the latter.

The first clear of the night went to Leslie Howard and Tic Tac! Expertly managing the time allowed, Leslie kept all the rails up with tight, proficient turns, not wasting a second as she navigated the track. David Arcand aboard Vledder went just one horse after Leslie and managed to snag the second spot of the night in the jump off.

The majority of the horses with jumping faults in the class had trouble in the triple combination, which was going away from the ingate and placed at the end of the course. Eleven horses incurred faults on course, after David Arcand's clear round, until Jay Hayes aboard Riva managed to jump clear and be the third horse entering the jump off. Richie Moloney and Let's Go were the fourth and final addition to the limited jump off, clearing the triple combination with impressive precision.

Leslie Howard and Tic Tac started off the jump off with a surprising four faults. Second in the ring, was David Arcand aboard Vleddar had four faults but managed to be slightly faster on the shorter course than Leslie. It wasn't until Jay Hayes entered the ring aboard Riva that the jump off saw its first and only clear round with a time of 42.75 seconds. Richie Moloney closed the jump off with an unexpected refusal that led to him voluntarily retire for the evening.

Jay and Riva managed the only double clear of the evening out of the thirty seven competitors that competed. Congratulations to Canada's Jay Hayes on his impressive win against a very large and highly talented field in the $33,000 Open Welcome presented by Animo at the Angelstone International CSI-W!
