Arkansas Derby winner and Kentucky Derby contender Archarcharch has been retired after an injury during Saturday's 137th running of the Kentucky Derby, resulting in a fractured condylar bone. The colt underwent surgery to fix the fracture, but too much cartilage damage had been done for him to continue his career.

Archarcharch and jockey Jon Court stumbled out of the starting gate Saturday; this is when the fracture is believed to have happened. Owner Bob Yagos comments that despite the stumble and obvious problem, the colt still ran his heart out and gave Court no problems, even trying to pass horses during the race.

Yagos and affiliates plan to send the colt to a Kentucky stud far to stand at stud, though no selections have been announced.
