"The horse racing community was shocked by the sudden and tragic death of 25-year-old Michelle Eustis on April 11 at Balmoral Park," the SouthTown Star reports. The avid equestrian and daughter of a well-known trainer was killed when a friend's truck side-swiped the horse she was riding, resulting in a fatal head injury.

Eustis' roommate of two years and fellow horse driver Rod Allums Jr. was not only shocked but saddened by the tragedy, realizing the impact on Eustis' seven year old daughter would be monstrous. As a way to help, Allums has set up several online auctions for various pricey items including tickets to horse races and a baseball signed by former White Sox player Ron Kittle.
