British Olympic Equestrians Recognized in Queen's New Years Honors List
In this London Olympic year, as high medal counts distinguished the home Teams, over thirty-five BritishTeam athletes were recognized in the New Years Honors list. The honorees represent sports ranging from sailing, cycling, boxing, and canoeing, to tennis and taekwondo.
Equestrians were prominent among the honorees, having won gold (dressage, show jumping) and silver medals (eventing) in the team competitions, while individual dressage gold was earned by Charlotte Dujardin in addition to her team accomplishment. She was made a OBE on the list.
Members of the gold medal teams were recognized with MBEs:
Laura Bechtolsheimer - dressage
Scott Brash - show jumping
Peter Charles - show jumping
Carl Hester - dressage
Ben Maher - show jumping
Nick Skelton, the fourth member of the gold medal winning show jumping team, was awarded an OBE on the Queen's birthday list.
Mary King, a stalwart of the British eventing team and member of the silver medal winning side for the Olympics, also was made an MBE.
