The house has passed the Burton budget amendment which cuts the BLM budget by $2 million.
The amendment was specifically formulated to express disapproval of the BLM policy of rounding-up and warehousing wild horses.
The BLM is currently spending a major portion of its budget, over $30 million of its $60+ million funding, in keeping the horses in holding pens. Congressman Dan Burton, R-Ind, co-sponsored the bill with Rep Jim Moran, D-Va. The Huffington Post quoted Moran as saying,
"Instead of using that [the increased budget funding last year] to fix this broken wild horse management problem, they permanently removed another 10,000 wild horses and burros and put them into tax-funded long-term holding pens."
The BLM had no comment on the bill.
