Canadian Eventing Announces Withdrawal of Jordan McDonald and Apple Cider from Eventing Team for the 2011 Pan American Games

Ottawa, ON — Due to a minor  injury sustained while training, Apple Cider, ridden by Jordan McDonald of Oakville, Ontario has been withdrawn from the Team nominated to compete at the 2011 Pan American Games — Eventing Competition.

It is expected that Apple Cider will make a full recovery. 

Following the selection procedure, an alternate/substitute horse and rider combination has been selected by the Canadian Eventing High Performance Committee.

Selena O’Hanlon of Kingston, ON, riding John Rumble’s eight-year-old Canadian Sport Horse gelding, Foxwood High, will join the team to compete at the Pan American Games

“While I am extremely disappointed not to have the opportunity to represent Canada with the team at these Games, I know my team mates will try their very best and I wish them much success in Guadalajara,” said McDonald.

The Olympic sport of eventing encompasses three separate tests: dressage, cross-country, and show jumping held consecutively. Each test ridden by the rider and horse in combination is scored individually but added together for the final results. The rider/horse combination with the fewest number of penalty points over the three days wins the competition.
