Ottawa, Ontario -The Canadian Eventing Committee reminds all riders that the deadline for applications for the 2012 Athlete Development Scholarship is November 30, 2012.

 

The Canadian Eventing Athlete Development Scholarship Program is designed to recognize and encourage the pursuit of international competition by developing Canadian riders. A minimum of two scholarships in the sum of $1,000.00 each will be awarded annually to qualified applicants, with additional scholarships awarded if sponsorship funds are available.

 

Eligibility Criteria

  • Scholarships are available to Canadian citizens or those holding Canadian landed immigrant status who are members of Equine Canada and Canadian Eventing and are a minimum of 16 years of age as of January 1st of the current competition year.
  • To qualify for a scholarship, the applicant must have completed at least one FEI competition at the one star level.
  • Applications will be assessed based on a rating system of 1-5 (1 being unsatisfactory and 5 being excellent) for each of the following categories: eventing experience, competition results, competition plans/goals, and dedication to the sport including their support and promotion of the sport in Canada.


Procedure for Scholarship Application
The applicant must submit an application form and include the following information

  1. Equine Canada Sport Licence number;
  2. proof of Canadian Citizenship or Landed Immigrant status;
  3. competition results over the past two years;
  4. other awards and funding received by the applicant in the immediately preceding 12 month period;
  5. one page on applicant's goals, role models and reasons for applying, with indication that the applicant demonstrates solid potential of becoming a high performance rider for Canada;
  6. demonstration of dedication to the sport; and
  7. a letter of recommendation forwarded from the applicant's coach.

Development Scholarships have been awarded to athletes since 1997.

Canadian Eventing is a committee of Equine Canada responsible for the sport of eventing in Canada from the domestic to the international level. The Canadian Eventing Committee is comprised of 12 members, including two rider representatives elected by the Elite Riders Association.
