Canadian show jumper Tiffany Foster disqualified after vet check finding

Following a vet check that found a sensitivity in her horse's front leg above the hoof, Canadian show jumper Tiffany Foster has been disqualified, leaving the Canadian team with three riders. This means that all scores count. As a four-member team, they would have been able to drop their weakest score.

The Canadians team has filed an appeal but, according to news reports, the FEI said there is no possibility of appeal on rulings about hypersensitivity. The Canadians have stated that the horse had a slight scratch above its hoof, which is what led to the ruling.

From Yahoo Sport:

"The Veterinary Commission have stated that the horse has an area of inflammation and sensitivity on the left forelimb just above the hoof. There is no accusation of malpractice, but the horse has been deemed unfit to compete by the Ground Jury," said the governing body of equestrian sport in a statement.

"Our team, all the riders, are devastated by this situation. We feel it's just not right and it's an incorrect application of the rules but there's going to be a process and we'll see what happens," said Ian Millar, who is making a record 10th Olympic appearance."

Foster had been making her Olympic debut.

The Canadian equestrian team has had a very challenging Olympics, with riders being knocked out in both the eventing and dressage.  There is still hope for the jumpers, as in 2008, Mac Cone was knocked out when his horse was injured, and the team still took home a silver medal.
