Cavalia launches month-long Vancouver show
24 March 2011
One of the founders of the famous circus Cirque du Soleil, Normand Latourelle, has brought his latest lavish event Cavalia to Vancouver's Olympic Village until April 17th. In an interview with North Shore News, Latourelle notes that the show has been an ongoing traveling extravaganza for nearly eight years. “We created the show during the summer of 2003 and the first performance was on August 28, 2003. We've been touring ever since non-stop,” he states.
If you're thinking that Cavalia is just some trapeze artists riding horses around a ring, think again. “Cavalia is a lavish orchestration of multimedia, equestrian and performing arts,” claims The Vancouver Sun. The show includes some impressive numbers in regards to its staff, human and horse alike. According to The Vancouver Sun, Cavalia contains thirty-three riders from seven countries, as well as forty-nine horses representing ten breeds from six countries. The show itself can be enjoyed under nine different tents, including the White Big Top. The facilities take a staggering 150 people to set up over the span of twelve days, while taking just three days to disassemble.
With shows from March 22nd until April 17th, equestrians, horse lovers, and appreciators of fine performance art alike are sure to have plenty of opportunities to add to the 2.5 million people who have viewed Cavalia since its beginning in 2003, according to BIV Business Today.
