Dogs running loose in Riverside County, Callifornia, attacked and killed a miniature horse stallion at a rural ranch.  The dogs were described as wolf-dog hybrids.

The Press-Enterprise (pe.com) quote local veterinarian, Susan Garlinghouse:

"The poor little thing was chewed to death. It probably died of pain and shock," said Susan Garlinghouse, a veterinarian who was at the ranch Thursday. She boards horses there.

Although there has been no official confirmation that the dogs were hybrids, Garlinghouse was positive that they were.

A ranch worker shot and killed one of the attacking dogs, and wounded a second. Animal control officers were able to dart and capture the wounded animal, while traps have been set for a suspected third participant in the attack. The animals were described as wearing collars, but none had tags.

According to Horsetalk.co.nz, the owner of the dogs has surrendered them to Riverside County Animal Services.
