For two days in a row Ashley Holzer of Toronto, ON and  Breaking Dawn captured first place in the dressage competition at CDI3* Royal Agricultural Winter Fair, presented by Dominion Regalia, on November 9 and 10, 2011.

With a score of 73.475%, Holzer and Breaking Dawn, a bay 10-year-old Dutch Warmblood gelding sired by Akribori and co-owned by Holzer and P.J. Rizvi, were declared the winners following the Grand Prix Freestyle on November 10. Choreographed to the movie soundtrack from “How to Train Your Dragon,” their dynamic, crowd-pleasing freestyle resulted in applause from the audience throughout the test.

A day earlier, Holzer scored 69.319% to capture first place in the Grand Prix test. The pair’s test was highlighted with excellent trot half-passes, fluid transitions into passage and very strong piaffe and passage tours.

“I am very proud to receive this award especially due to the performance of my new horse Breaking Dawn,” said Holzer. “It’s always a rewarding to bring a horse to a new level and see them perform so well and happily.”

The Dressage Canada Red Scarf Equestrian Athlete of the Month is a recognition program that celebrates the achievements of Canadian dressage riders who represent Canada in national and international competition in the FEI Pony, Children, Junior, Young Rider, Advanced, Grand Prix and Young Horse classes.
