Ottawa, ON - Megan Lane of Loretto, ON has been named the Dressage Canada Red Scarf Equestrian Athlete of the Month for January.
From a very young age, Lane displayed an amazing talent for riding. Her show career began at the age of five when she started training and competing on the hunter/jumper circuit. At eight, Lane's focus shifted to the sport of dressage. When competing on the Ontario Trillium dressage circuit, Lane caught the eye of the judges and shocked the crowds by winning adult classes on small ponies. She was immediately noticed for her style and personality and was quickly proving to be a contender showing star quality for the future.

Lane is being recognized for her performances throughout January at the 2014 Adequan Global Dressage Festival, with both Caravella and San D'or.

Riding her 13-year-old Canadian-bred Dutch Warmblood mare Caravella, sired by Contango, Lane scored a 68.980% for first place in the Grand Prix Special at the CDI-W Wellington, January 9th - 12th and followed up with encore performances at the CDI-W Wellington, January 23rd - 26th, where the pair achieved scores of 71.020% in the Grand Prix and 70.50% in the Grand Prix Freestyle to finish 4th and 7th respectively.

In the CDI1* Wellington, January 17th - 19th, Lane and Deer Ridge Equestrian's San D'or, a nine-year-old Westphalian gelding sired by Sandro Hit, earned two first place finishes in the Prix St. Georges and FEI Intermediate 1 with scores of 69.649% and 70.263%.

"I would like to send out a big thank you to Deer Ridge Equestrian, Red Scarf Equestrian, my coach Oded Shimoni, and my family and friends," said Lane. "I am reminded of how lucky I am when I see the caliber of horses I get to ride, the supporters and the opportunities I wake up to each and every morning. It is a bonus to have my hard work and dedication recognized. Thanks again to everyone!"

The Dressage Canada Red Scarf Equestrian Athlete of the Month is a recognition program that celebrates the achievements of Canadian dressage riders who represent Canada in international competition in the FEI Pony, Children, Junior, Young Rider, Advanced, Grand Prix and Young Horse classes.

Red Scarf Equestrian is the generous sponsor of Dressage Canada Athlete of the Month. Red Scarf Equestrian will be providing Megan Lane with a generous gift certificate that can be used towards the purchase of elegant equestrian luggage, travel bags and accessories that are all made in Canada.
