Naima Moreira Laliberté Named Dressage Canada Red Scarf Equestrian
Athlete of the Month for July
Ottawa, ON--- Naima Moreira Laliberté of Outremont, QC has been named the Dressage Canada Red Scarf Equestrian Athlete of the Month for July.
Moreira Laliberté received this award for outstanding results achieved representing the Province of Quebec and Canada at the 2013 Adequan FEI North American Junior & Young Rider Championships, presented by Gotham North, held July 16-21, 2013 at the Kentucky Horse Park in Lexington, KY.
Moreira Laliberté and Windbreaker 3, Pferdesport Wintermule's 12-year-old Westphalian gelding, sired by Windspiel AS, earned three medals at the NAJYRC; Gold - Junior Team - Team Quebec on 67.054%, Silver in their Junior Freestyle earning a final score of 71.20% and Silver in the Junior Individual with 70.105%.
"First of all, I feel very honoured to be chosen as "Athlete of the Month", and of course, without my team mates Beatrice Boucher, Laurence Blais Tetreault and Félixe Cote Villeneuve, the Québec Junior gold team medal wouldn't have been achieved. I am very grateful for their support to win that medal," commented Laliberté. "Since I hadn't known my partner Windbreaker 3 for very long, I didn't know how he would hold up in Kentucky's hot climate of Kentucky. Though I definitely felt he was tired in the warm up for the Freestyle, I was surprised and excited by how he mobilised new energy when we entered to the music. He is very reliable and a trooper, no matter the environment.
On behalf of all of the junior riders, I want to thank all those people in the background who make it possible for us to focus mainly on our riding. Again, I am grateful for this award, but really, I feel it belongs to all of us - my parents, my coach; Albrecht Heidemann, and all the people and friends who have supported me."
The Dressage Canada Red Scarf Equestrian Athlete of the Month is a recognition program that celebrates the achievements of Canadian dressage riders who represent Canada in national and international competition in the FEI Pony, Children, Junior, Young Rider, Advanced, Grand Prix and Young Horse classes.
