Olympian David Marcus Sweeps Grand Prix Division at the CDI3* Angelstone International Dressage Tournament

 

 

Ottawa, ON --- In an exciting event held this past weekend in Rockwood, ON, Olympian David Marcus took home top honours in the Grand Prix, Grand Prix Special and Grand Prix Freestyle at the CDI3* Angelstone International Dressage Tournament.


Marcus of Campbellville, ON, riding his 2012 Olympic partner, Chrevi's Capital, a 13-year-old Danish Warmblood gelding sired by Chrevi's Lavallo, started their divisional sweep with Friday's Grand Prix test earning a final of 69.809%. Olympic teammate, Jacqueline Brooks of Cedar Valley, ON, and her Olympic mount D Niro, Brookhaven Inc's, 14-year-old Swedish Warmblood gelding sired by D-Day, took second place on a final score 67.511%, nudging Marcus with his second horse Don Kontes, a 13-year-old Swedish Warmblood gelding, sired by Don Schufro, into third place just .894% behind Brooks. Both Chrevi's Capital and Don Kontes are owned by Debbie Kinzinger Miculinic.

The winning continued Saturday for Marcus and Chrevi's Capital taking first place once again in the evening's Grand Prix Freestyle test with a final score of 72.725%, narrowly besting Brooks and D Niro by a mere .400 of a percentage point with their final a score of 72.325%.

*"Capital feels great, in his body and in his mind, and I'm looking forward to this year with him," said Marcus, who plans to contest CDI events in Saugerties, New York, and Devon, Pennsylvania, later this season. "Everything we do this year is in preparation for the World Equestrian Games next year. We are trying to make the right plan to set him up mentally and physically to peak next year at the WEG."

Fresh from the win in the Freestyle, Marcus and Don Kontes captured the Grand Prix Special with a final score of 67.938%, edging out fellow Olympian Evi Strasser of Ste Adele, QC, aboard her partner, Renaissance Tyme, her 10-year-old Oldenburg gelding sired by Royal Diamond, by just over a point, giving Marcus the hat-trick. Strasser and Renaissance Tyme's final score of 66.667% pushed Megan Lane of Loretto, ON, atop Caravella, her 12-year-old Canadian Dutch Warmblood mare, into third place with a score of 66.583%.

In the FEI Prix St Georges, Diane Creech of Caistor Centre, ON, rode Hallmark, Douglas Leatherdale's eight-year-old Hanoverian gelding sired by His Highness and Chrevi's Christo, his 10-year-old Danish Warmblood gelding sired by Chrevi's Lavallo, to first and second place finishes. Creech earned 69.605% on Hallmark, then doubled back to ride Chrevri's Christo finishing with a final score of 69.386%. Andrea Bresee of Uxbridge, ON, rode Pericles, Loretta Flynn's nine-year-old Canadian Hanoverian gelding sired by Pommery, to third on a score of 67.851%.

Creech repeated her first place finish with Hallmark in the FEI Intermediaire 1 on a score of 71.491%. She took third on Chrevi's Christo earning 68.816%, coming in behind Strasser and Rigaudon Tyme, who clinched second place on a final score of 70.263%.

Bresee and Pericles took first in the FEI Intermediaire 1 Freestyle with a final score of 70.00%. Simone Williams of Navan, ON, rode Farley, her nine-year-old Hanoverian gelding sired by Falsterbo, co-owned with parents Margaret and Robert Williams, to a second place finish with a final test score of 68.650%, and Maya Markowski of St. Clements, ON, who is coached by Marcus, rode Lumiere, her 10-year-old Canadian Warmblood sired by Lynx, to a third place finish achieving a score of 68.425%.

In the FEI Junior division, Beatrice Boucher of St-Dominique, QC, and Dante, Agnieszka Agnes Wnorowska's 15-year-old Hanoverian gelding sired by Dirano, took first place all their tests scoring 65.631% in Junior Team, 64.965% in Individual and 67.800% in their FEI Junior Freestyle performance.

Tanya Strasser Shostak of Ste Adele, QC, and Action Tyme, Evi Strasser's 13-year-old Oldenburg gelding sired by Aktuell, swept the first place ribbons in the Young Rider division starting with their Team Test scoring 65.921%, moving onto the Individual Test finishing with a final score of 67.500% and closing the event with a first place ribbon for their performance in their Freestyle on a final score of 69.925%. Madison Lawson of Bonfield, ON, and McGuire, her 18-year-old gelding, took second in the Young Rider Freestyle with 67.900%.

The CDI3* Ground Jury consisted of; President, Stephen Clarke, 5* (GBR), Foreign Judge: Thomas Lang, 5*(AUT), Raphael Saleh, 4* (FRA), Janet Foy 4*(USA), and Joan Macartney, 4*(CAN),
