Tina Irwin Named Dressage Canada Red Scarf Equestrian Athlete of the Month for June

Ottawa, ON — Tina Irwin of Stouffville, ON, has been named the Dressage Canada Red Scarf Equestrian Athlete of the Month for June.

Irwin earned consistently top results during the two back-to-back World Cup Qualifying Dressage CDI competitions—the CDI-W Milton Summer Classic, held June 17–19, followed by the CDI-W Milton International Classic, which ran from June 24–26. Both competitions where held at the Iron Horse Equestrian Complex in Milton, ON.

Riding Winston, Mary Ellen Horgan’s 14-year-old Dutch Warmblood gelding sired by Whinny Jackson, Irwin placed first in the Intermediaire Freestyle with 73.325%, and second in both the Intermediaire I (71.053%) and Prix St. Georges (67.763%) during the CDI-W Milton Summer Classic.

At CDI-W Milton International Classic, Winston and Irwin placed second with a score of 74.225% in the Intermediaire Freestyle. The pair scored 70.614%% in the Intermediaire 1 and 69.123% in the Prix St. Georges for two additional second place finishes.

Earlier in the month, Irwin and Winston competed at CDI1* Batavia, OH, June 11-12, where they placed third in both the Prix St. Georges and Intermediaire 1 classes, scoring 67.368 and 66.360% respectively. It was Irwin’s first CDI since returning from maternity leave.

“I was pretty pleased with the results at Milton after being out of the saddle for six months. I have only been back in the saddle for three weeks since the birth of my son,” said Irwin. “I have a goal in mind, which is to attend the Pan American Games, so I am very lucky that my husband, Jaimie Irwin, kept Winston in training so I could try and qualify. I am very grateful to have such a quality horse as Winston to ride and compete with."

The Dressage Canada Red Scarf Equestrian Athlete of the Month is a recognition program that celebrates the achievements of Canadian dressage riders who represent Canada in national and international competition in the FEI Pony, Children, Junior, Young Rider, Advanced, Grand Prix and Young Horse classes.
