EHV-1 Cases Confirmed in Southern California
On January 11, 2012, a gelding in Southern California was confirmed with the neuropathic strain of the EHV-1 virus. The horse resides at a large boarding facility in Orange County.
The facility is under quarantine, and the horse is under veterinary care. An investigation into the origin of the infection is underway.
An additional four horses have shown signs of the disease and subsequently were confirmed positive for the virus.
The facility remains quarantined.
