Jill Irving Named Red Scarf Dressage Athlete of the Month for September 2016

Ottawa, ON - Equestrian Canada (EC) is pleased to announce that Jill Irving of Moncton, NB has been chosen as the September 2016 recipient of the Red Scarf Dressage Athlete of the Month Award.

Irving has had a fantastic fall season, with her recent successes at the CDI-W New England Dressage Association (NEDA) Fall Festival of Dressage in Saugerties, NY and CDI-W/3 * Dressage at Devon in Pennsylvania being definite highlights.

Irving was the winner of the CDI-W Grand Prix Freestyle at the NEDA Fall Festival of Dressage, held Sept. 22-25, scoring an impressive 73.050% while riding her 14-year-old Hanoverian gelding, Degas 12 (De Niro x Regazzoni). Together they also took third place in the Grand Prix (67.540%).

At the CDI-W/3 * Dressage at Devon, held Sept. 29 to Oct. 2, Irving and Degas 12 danced their way to new personal best records and back-to-back wins after scoring 69.600% in the Grand Prix and 70.255% in the Grand Prix Special.

A well-deserving recipient of the Dressage Athlete of the Month Award, Irving is known for her positive attitude and inclusive team spirit.

“We really have to remember our volunteers,” she said in an interview after her success at Devon. “We all work hard, not just the riders. We wouldn’t have an industry without the volunteers. This is not an individual sport. It is on paper, but not behind the scenes.”
