Ottawa, ON – Canadian Olympian, Megan Lane of Loretto, ON, kicked off the winter season with a bang to earn the title of Red Scarf Dressage Athlete of the Month for January.
Lane made her 2017 competition debut on Jan. 12 during the opening week of the Adequan Global Dressage Festival (AGDF) in Wellington, FL. She and Caravella (Contango x Riverman), a 16-year-old Dutch Warmblood mare she co-owns with her mother, Cathy, and sister, Kelsey, were the top ranked Canadian pair in the CDI-W FEI Grand Prix. Their score of 70.700% placed them third on the leaderboard.
A day later, Lane and Caravella danced to a second place finish in the CDI-W FEI Grand Prix Freestyle and set a new personal best Freestyle score of 75.967%.
“The Freestyle was quite possibly the ride of my life; one of those rides I wished never had to end,” Lane commented about the performance.
Her success continued during AGDF week three, held Jan. 25-29, with impressive results aboard a second mount, San d’Or (Sandro Hit x Cocktail), an 11-year-old Westphalian gelding owned by Deer Ridge Equestrian. The highlight of their week came in the CDI-W FEI Grand Prix Special on Jan. 28, where they earned a score of 70.00% for fifth place.
