NAJYRC Eventing Young Rider Athletes Take the Lead

Parker, CO – Canada’s combined Ontario/Alberta Eventing Team started off with a bang on July 28, 2016 at the 2016 Adequan/FEI North American Junior & Young Rider Championships (NAJYRC), taking place July 27-31 in Parker, CO.

Canadians Leading CICY 2* After Dressage

In the CICY 2* eventing division, the combined Ontario/Alberta Eventing Team is currently leading after the dressage phase on a team total score of 153.2.  Alberta’s Shelby Brost from Red Deer made waves on her horse, Crimson (Etta x Cojak), her 13-year-old Thoroughbred mare, after finishing as the top Canadian. The pair sailed to a score of 50.2 penalties, helping the team cement their lead.

“Crimson was super today,” said Brost, who earned the individual bronze medal in the CH-J* division at NAJYRC in 2015. “She couldn’t have been better. She is very consistent. We try to get our marks with consistency and be very accurate - and we did, so I’m very happy with that.”

Her teammates, Jamie Kellock of Newmarket, ON aboard Don’t Blink and April Simmonds of Uxbridge, ON with Impressively Done, contributed to Canada’s lead with scores of 52.6 and 50.4 penalties, respectively.

The Ontario/Alberta Eventing Team will continue on to cross-country on July 30, before finishing with the jumping phase on July 31.

Vanessa Creech-Terauds Tops Junior Team Test

In the FEI Junior Dressage Team Test, Vanessa Creech-Terauds, of Caistor Centre, ON made Canada proud, earning the highest mark of the class (68.757%) aboard Fleur de Lis L (First Dance x De Niro), a seven-year-old Hanoverian mare owned by Diane Creech and Louise Leatherdale.

Speaking on her performance, Creech-Terauds attributed her success to the focus of Fleur de Lis L.

“She tries her heart out when I ride, and we click so well together when we show,” Creech-Terauds said. “She’s so focused and she always tries her hardest and gives me her all. Today, she was amazing. We went in and she was trying, she was focused, and she knew her job. She knew what she had to do. Really, I could not have asked for any more.”

Creech-Terauds was joined in the Junior Team Test by teammates Lindsay Cooper-Kelly from Ottawa, ON on Gizmo and Alyssa Gaudet from Memramcook, NB aboard Palladio.

Next up for the junior dressage riders will be the Individual Test on July 30, followed by the Freestyle on July 31.

On the Docket for Day Three

On July 29, day three of competition, the Canadians will compete in the Young Rider Individual Test for dressage, the CICJ 1* dressage phase for eventing and the Junior Team Final for jumping.
