Equestrian Sport Productions Spring 3 Horse Show Wrap-Up:
April 17-21, 2013

Wellington, FL - Equestrian Sport Productions LLC (ESP) concluded its third week of competition for its 2013 spring horse show circuit this week at the Palm Beach International Equestrian Center (PBIEC) in Wellington, FL. The show featured a full schedule of "AA" hunter and 4-star jumper competition, including a $25,000 Grand Prix, a $10,000 Open Jumper Stake, and a $5,000 USHJA National Hunter Classic.

The highlight class of the week was the $25,000 ESP Spring 3 Grand Prix, where Ireland's Paul O'Shea guided Michael Hayden's Primo de Revel to victory against a 45-horse field. Steve Stephens of Palmetto, FL, was the course designer in the International Arena for week three of the spring circuit. Stephens set a challenging track that saw nine horses advance to the jump-off and only three clear rounds over the short course.

O'Shea and Primo de Revel, a 12-year-old Belgian Warmblood gelding by Quinault x Lys de Darmen, had the fastest double clear round in 40.047 seconds in the jump-off. Samuel Parot and Ileana Stark's Lagueria finished second in 41.017 seconds. Sophie Simpson and Why Not, owned by Simpson Show Jumping Inc, finished third with their time of 41.974 seconds. Last week's grand prix winners, Todd Minikus and Quality Girl, had the fastest round in the jump-off in 37.199 seconds but had one rail down to finish fourth.

"It was a good class," O'Shea noted. "When I went in for the jump-off there was only one clear, so I didn't have to go really fast. I went quick. I probably could have left out a stride to the last jump, but I waited and as it turned out it was enough today to win."

"In Ireland he won two Grand Prixs," O'Shea said of Primo de Revel. "He is a lovely horse. He is very easy and straight forward. I have had him since he was six years old and he has been a pleasure to ride."

Jumper Highlights - Thursday through Sunday

The Spring 3 Horse Show kicked off on Thursday with a win for Victoria Colvin and Don Juan, owned by Rivers Edge, in the $10,000 Open Jumper Stakes Class. Forty-seven entries competed with 21 advancing to the jump-off and nine double clear rounds. Colvin and Don Juan, a 10-year-old Belgian Warmblood gelding by Flamenco Desemilly x Lagano, had the fastest jump-off time of 28.042 seconds for the win.

Paul O'Shea and Primo de Revel finished second in 28.444 seconds. Darragh Kerins and KEC Alligator Alley, owned by Sinead and Oonagh Kennedy, were third in 28.710 seconds. Pablo Barrios and ZL Group, Inc.'s Zara Leandra placed fourth with a time of 28.909 seconds, and Todd Minikus and Legacy Stables LLC's Tuxedo finished fifth in 29.505 seconds.

Victoria Colvin started riding Don Juan in the High Junior Jumpers during this year's FTI Consulting Winter Equestrian Festival, so this was the biggest class that they have done together and a great win for the pair.

"He is really fun," Colvin smiled after the class. "He is kind of like a little dirt bike. He sees the jump and he just takes off. He is just off to the races. He is really cute."

"It was a nice course today," Colvin noted. "It wasn't too big, but it was good. It was a beautiful course."

Commenting on her jump-off round, Colvin explained, "I think jump one to jump two I turned back really tight and he is crazy in jump-offs, so you kind of just let go and he runs. He loves to chip. He just runs to the pop-chip and he is like a springboard. It is really cool."

Many other classes were held throughout the week in the jumper divisions. In the $1,500 Tackeria NAL Child/Adult Jumper Classic, Lilli Hymowitz and Rose Hill Farm's Glen Mentino were the winners with Julia Jenkins and Charina finishing in second.

In the $2,500 Sanctuary at PBIEC NAL Low AO/Jr Jumper Classic, Sarah Sturges and Sambalita were the winners with Cloe Hymowitz and Rose Hill Farm's VDL Wardorette in second.

In the $2,500 Gold Coast Feed High AO/Jr Jumper Classic, Elizabeth Patz and Doublethink LLC's Chantal were victorious with Danielle Torano and Escape finishing second.

The Office Depot $1,500 Low Child Jumper Classic saw a win for Heather Vaxer and Cha Cha Cha with Hana Bieling and Wonderland Farm LLC's Rainbow Brite in second. The Office Depot $1,500 Low Adult Jumper Classic was won by Tamara Seely and Legrako with Eileen Oleary and Miss Scarlett in second.

The $1,500 M&S Child/Adult Jumper Classic had a one-two finish for Lilli Hymowitz. Hymowitz won the class aboard Scott Stewart's Center Court and finished second with Rose Hill Farm's Glen Mentino.

Hunter and Equitation Highlights

The highlight hunter class of the week was the $5,000 USHJA National Hunter Classic, which was held on Saturday with the final round going under the lights in the International Arena at PBIEC in the evening. Held in a two round format, 23 entries competed and the top twelve scored horses from round one returned for a second handy round.

Christopher Payne and Susan Moriconi's Holden dominated the competition with the high scores in both rounds. They earned a 91 in round one and a 92 in round two for a total of 183 points for the win. Holden is an eleven-year-old Holsteiner gelding that Payne has had great success with.

Finishing in second, Tracy Scheriff-Muser guided Carolyn Gouse's Shorline to scores of 87.5 and 91.01 for a two round total of 178.51. Kelly Arani and Marigot Bay Farm LLC's Samba placed third with scores of 89 and 89.5 to total 178.5. In fourth place, Shawn Casady rode Marigot Bay Farm LLC's Stars Go Blue to scores of 87 and 90 to total 177.

Holden was also champion of the Adult Amateur Working Hunter 51 & Over as well as the Open Hunter 3' divisions for the week with owner Susan Moriconi and Christopher Payne riding.

In other hunter results, the $500 M&S NAL Children's Hunter Classic win went to Jane C. Brooks and Lifeline with Lilly Gottwald and Postage Stamp Farm LLC's Supernova finishing in second. In the $500 M&S NAL Adult Hunter Classic, the win went to Julie Holzberger and Revealed with Dennis Sisco and Lordigo in second.

In the $500 Sweet Oak Farm Pony Hunter Classic, Katie Jones and Linda Evans' Dreamland won over Jordan Crivella and Scott Stewart's Promise Too.

In the Adult Amateur Working Hunter 18-50 division, the championship went to D'Amour and Hillary Jean with Elite Supplements In.c's Vitesse and Beth Melamed in reserve.

In the Amateur Owner Working Hunter 3'6"/3'3", David Gochman's Whatever and Becky Gochman earned the championship with Northernside LLC's Crownline and Beth Bidgood in reserve.
In the combined First Year Green /High Performance Working Hunter division, championship honors went to Rose Hill Farm's Exclusive ridden by Scott Stewart. Christopher Payne and Susan Moriconi's Channing finished in reserve.

Christopher Payne also had a clean sweep in the Performance Working Hunter 3'3"/3'6" division. He earned the championship aboard his own horse, Harlan, and finished in reserve riding Le Reve Farm Inc.'s Good Call.

In the Junior Hunters, Cloe Hymowitz and Rose Hill Farm's Perfectionist earned the Large Junior Hunter championship with her sister, Lilli Hymowitz and Rose Hill Farm's Statement finishing in reserve.

The sisters also dominated in the Small Junior Hunter division with Lilli and Rose Hill Farm's Joyful taking home the championship and Cloe riding Rose Hill Farm's Genuine finishing in reserve.

In the Medium /Large Pony Hunters, Linda Evans' Dreamland earned the championship ridden by Katie Jones with Pegasus Show Stables' Truly Noble and Mimi Gochman in reserve. In the Small Pony Hunters, Mimi Gochman and David Gochman's Weebiscuit were the winners with Gochman and her mount Rafael finishing in reserve.

In the equitation divisions, the Pessoa USEF Hunter Seat Medal presented by Randolph College saw a win for Addison Piper aboard Cavallo Farms' Superfly. The ASPCA Maclay class was won by Madison Butehorn riding Staisha Bejarano's Paper Gangster.
