JERSEY FRESH INTERNATIONAL THREE DAY EVENT
Jessica Phoenix of Cannington, ON came out on top of the CCI 3* division at the Jersey Fresh International Three Day Event, which took place in Allentown, NJ, USA, from May 9 to 12.
Riding her 2012 London Olympics mount, Exponential (a 15-year-old Thoroughbred gelding she co-owns with her husband Joel Phoenix), she received a score of 52.70 penalties in the dressage phase, making fourth place their starting point. However, they moved up to take second place after being one of only two clear performances over John Williams' cross-country course.
In the final stadium jumping phase, they lowered just one of the 12 jumping efforts for four faults to take the win on a total score of 56.70.
"Our goal going in was to have a really competitive dressage score and finish on it," said Phoenix, who was Canada's top placed Eventer at the 2012 Olympics, and an Individual Gold and Team Silver Medalist at the 2011 Pan American Games. "I am so proud of Exponential and thrilled to have this incredible partnership with him."
Phoenix, who rode a total of five mounts at Jersey Fresh-the most of any other rider at this year's event-also took eighth place on a final score of 86.20 in the CCI 3* with Erodium, a 12-year-old Dutch Warmblood-cross gelding owned by Kirk Hoppner.
Additional Canadian results included:
CIC 3*
8- Rachel McDonough / Irish Rhythm / 90.00
CIC 2*
7- Jordan McDonald / Prince Mayo / 66.70
11- Tik Maynard / Sapphire / 72.70
