Jill Henselwood Named CAVALOR 'Athlete of the Month' for July
Ottawa, Ontario — Jill Henselwood was named the CAVALOR 'Athlete of the Month' for July by Jump Canada.
Henselwood of Oxford Mills, ON, scored back-to-back grand prix victories during the two weeks of L’International Bromont held July 20 and 24 and July 27 to 31.
Riding George, a nine-year-old Hannoverian gelding owned by Brian Gingras, Henselwood posted the only clear round from a starting field of 24 over the technical course set by two-time Olympic course designer, Leopoldo Palacios of Venezuela. With no jump-off to contend, Henselwood was declared the winner of the $65,000 bonjourquébec.com World Cup Grand Prix during the first week of competition, designated a CSI2*-W competition by the International Equestrian Federation (FEI).
Henselwood’s success continued during the second week of competition, which was sanctioned as an FEI CSI3* event. Only three horses jumped clear over the track set by Mexican course designer Catsy Cruz, and two of them belonged to Henselwood. Riding IV Ever, a 10-year-old Dutch Warmblood gelding also owned by Brian Gingras, Henselwood posted the fastest clear round to secure the win in the $125,000 Grand Prix. With four faults in the jump-off, Henselwood also placed third with George.
“At Bromont, George and IV Ever were unbelievable for young horses,” said Henselwood, who was a member of Canada’s silver medal team at the 2008 Beijing Olympics. “The courses at Bromont were the biggest fences that they have jumped, and they were both incredibly capable at the new level. I hope that George will qualify for the Pan American Games.”
As the CAVALOR 'Athlete of the Month' for June, Henselwood receives a gift certificate from title sponsor CAVALOR Inc.
