Equine Canada - NAJYRC Daily Wrap Up for Wednesday July 16 2014

Lexington, KY -- Equine Canada is pleased to provide daily coverage of the Canadian junior and young riders competing at the Adequan FEI North American Junior Young Rider Championships (NAJYRC), presented by Gotham North, in Lexington Kentucky.

 

Canada, the United States, the Dominican Republic, El Salvador and Mexico who are competing for FEI team and individual medals in the three Olympic disciplines; jumping, eventing and dressage, and the Federation Equestre Internationale (FEI) discipline of endurance.This year's event, running from July 15 - 20, welcomes 216 young athletes from across

Canadian Dressage Teams Medal at 2014 North American Junior 
and Young Rider Championships
The Ontario Junior and Quebec Young Rider dressage teams both earned silver medals in the team portion of the competition at 2014 Adequan FEI North American Junior & Young Rider Championships (NAJYRC) held July 16, 2014. 
Winning the silver medal in the Junior division, with a score of 197.785, were Ontario team members Alexandra Meghji of Toronto, ON; Vanessa Creech-Terauds of Caistor Centre, ON; Liza Wilson of Collingwood, ON and Sophie Dean-Potter, Kleinburg, ON.
Just behind the Ontario team was the team Quebec / Alberta comprised of Camille Carier Bergeron of Mascouche, QC; Rakeya Moussa of Edmonton, AB; Beatrice Boucher of St. Dominique, QC and Melissa Jodoin of St. Hyacinthe, QC with a team total of 196.108. In eighth place, with a total score of 192.054, was Team British Columbia / New Brunswick of Lindsay Stuart of White Rock, BC; Hannah Beaulieu, Maple Ridge, BC and Alyssa Gaudet of Memramcook, NB.
Winning the Junior team gold medal was United States Region 1 with a score of 199.784.
Riding Lowelas (Hockey 41 x Inster Graditz), a 14-year-old Trakehner owned by Gilles Bergeron, Carier Bergeron earned the second highest score overall for the Junior Team test with 68.784%.
"Lowelas was really good in my warm-up," said Carier Bergeron, 14, who just started riding Lowelas three months ago. "He was calm in the ring and he showed me how to relax. I would like to thank my coaches Albrecht Heidemann, Annie Desranleau and Jasmine Letorneau for all their help."
The Young Rider team from Quebec, Laurence Blais Tetreault of Montreal, QC; Naima Moreira Laliberte of Outremont, QC; Tanya Strasser-Shostak of Ste Adele, QC and Julie Channell of Boucherville, QC, also won the team silver medal with a score of 201.395. 
The members of Young Rider Team British Columbia / Alberta / Manitoba--Amy Wellburn of North Saanich, BC; David Ziegler of Beiseker, AB and Nachelle Forde, Winnipeg, MB rode away with sixth place, scoring 190.79. Rounding out the Canadian Young Riders were Team Ontario's Mariah Sutton of Drumbo, ON; Cassandra Jessop of Newmarket, ON and Erica Flak of Bethany, ON, who finished in eighth with a score of 190.563.
The Young Rider Team gold medal was awarded to United States Region 7 scoring 206.737.
Strasser-Shostak and Action Tyme (Aktuell x Aleksander), a 14-year-old Oldenburg gelding owned by Evi Strasser, earned the third highest score of the day in the Team test, with a 68.579%. 
"I feel that my ride went really well and he was super in tune with me," said Strasser Shostak, 19, who is competing Action Tyme for the second year in a row at NAJYRC. "He was very well behaved as usual, and I am lucky to have such a reliable horse that I can put all my confidence in and ride to the best of my abilities."
"I'm so proud of these girls," said Ellen Rumball Dvorak, the chef d'équipe. "They all rode pretty amazing, and everyone is having a great time."
The competition will continue on Thursday, July 19, with the Individual Test for both divisions.
