Saddle up, it's "Horse Day" in Ottawa!

 

 

OTTAWA--- The City of Ottawa has proclaimed June 1st, 2013, "Ottawa Horse Day". Equine Canada, in partnership with the Wesley Clover Foundation and the Ontario Equestrian Federation (OEF), is hosting a free, fun-filled family day celebrating horses and horse-related activities.



Event Summary:

This Saturday is all about horses as Horse Day rides into Ottawa to give people of all ages an opportunity to get up close to horses through a fun and interactive program. Adding to the excitement, City of Ottawa Ward Councillor,  Mark Taylor, will be officially proclaiming June 1 as "Ottawa Horse Day" at this inaugural event.



Overview: 

The day will begin with a horse-drawn wagon ride taking guests from the parking area up to the exhibit grounds where they will experience horse and rider demonstrations showcasing English and Western style riding, driving, specialty breeds, training techniques and a special presentation by the Rideau Ground Search and Rescue team - Ontario's first mounted search and rescue unit.

The "Meet'n'Greet" area will give visitors a chance to meet riders and their horses, and to explore and learn more about the various ways to enjoy horses and children can try their hand at a "Horseless Horseshow". There will be several educational exhibits where families can learn how to get involved with these amazing animals.

Jane's Catering, 
a favourite among the horsey set, will be on site selling hot and cold refreshments. Families are also encouraged to bring lawn chairs and picnic lunches to enjoy the green space at the park.

The Wesley Clover Foundation r
ecently took over management of the former equestrian park and visitors will have an opportunity to learn about the exciting plans underway for its future and what it will mean for the community.

To help increase local public awareness, to promote and educate people of all ages about horses and horse industry, while providing visitors with the opportunity to experience horses up close and personal.

11:00 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Official proclamation: 
1:00 p.m.

Event location: Former Nepean National Equestrian Park,

In the event of severe weather, the Ottawa event will be cancelled in order to protect the safety of both horses and humans.
