Top Results for Canadians at 15th Annual FEI Bromont International Driving

Ottawa, ON – Canadians rose to the top of the leaderboard during the 15th annual Bromont International Driving competition, held June 24-26 at the Olympic Equestrian Park in Bromont, QC.

 

Tina Sully of Elgin, ON, claimed the CAI2* Single Horse division on a total score of 188.63 with her 16-year-old Standardbred-cross mare, Deer Park Phoenix, sired by Tatoo. After starting strong with a second place finish in the dressage phase, Sully took first place in the marathon, before finishing second overall in the cones phase.

 

“My horse was in very good form, it was the best performance of her career,” said Sully, who was sponsored by the Eastern Ontario Pleasure Driving Society, based in Ottawa. “It’s the first time she has won at this level; I’m really pleased with her. We’ve been training eight years for this.”

 

In addition to her division win, Sully was presented with the Best Canadian Driver Award and the CAI 2* Canadian Champion title.

 

In the CAI 1* Single Horse, Denis Martin of Shannon, QC took first place with his eight-year-old Canadian-cross gelding, Senna. They finished the competition with an outstanding score of 71.77, giving them a lead of over 11 points.

 

Eugen Hug of Roxton Pond, QC also saw success in Bromont, taking second place in the CAI 2* Horse Four-in-Hand on a total score of 217.07 with this team of Coming in second place, due to his success in the obstacle phase in the CAI 2* Horse Four-in-Hand, was Quebec native Eugen Hug and his team of French Trotter-cross horses.

 

The Bromont International Driving is one of only seven FEI driving events in North America, and the only FEI sanctioned driving event held in Canada. The competition involves a combination of all three driving disciplines, dressage, marathon and obstacle driving.
