CIC3* THE FORK INTERNATIONAL HORSE TRIALS
Many of Canada's top and up-and-coming Eventing riders contested one of the USA's most prestigious spring events, CIC 3* The Fork International Horse Trials, held April 4-7 in Norwood, NC.
Canada's best result in the CIC 3* division came from Olympian Jessica Phoenix of Cannington, ON. Riding her 2012 London Olympics mount, Exponential (a 15-year-old Thoroughbred gelding she co-owns with Joel Phoenix), she took sixth place in the CIC 3* division, finishing on her Dressage score of 51.90 after clear performances in both the Cross Country and Stadium Jumping phases.
"I was extremely pleased with Exponential's performance at The Fork and I feel it was an excellent prep for Rolex," said Phoenix. "Thank you to The Fork for providing us with such a great venue and perfect footing Cross Country. Also, a big thanks to our national team support staff throughout the weekend."
Colleen Loach of Dunham, QC was the highest-placed Canadian in the CIC 2* division, earning sixth place aboard Peter Barry's six-year-old Warmblood-cross mare, Freespirit. Like Phoenix, Loach was also able to put in clean Cross Country and Stadium Jumping performances and finish on her Dressage score of 56.10.
"I am very happy with June's (aka Freespirit's) performance last weekend. This is her first season going Intermediate and she found it easy and had a great time. She was a bit tense in the Dressage, but amazing in the jumping phases," commented Loach, explaining that the horse is only rising seven (and won't be celebrating her birthday until her namesake month of June).
"It was a pleasure to ride at The Fork-a lovely, well organized event," Loach added.
Additional Canadian results included:
CIC 3*
29- Cody Sturgess / Imperial Melody / 72.20
CIC 2*
12- Shandiss McDonald / Porsch Pride / 65.90
21- Peter Barry / Qorry Blue D'Argouges / 79.40
