CCI 4* MITSUBISHI MOTORS BADMINTON HORSE TRIALS

Rebecca Howard of Salmon Arm, BC (but currently living and training in England) took 12th place at the world-renowned CCI 4* Mitsubishi Motors Badminton Horse Trials, held May 2-6 in Gloucestershire, GBR.

Riding her experienced Olympic and World Equestrian Games mount, Riddle Master, a 12-year-old Canadian Sport Horse gelding owned and bred by Blithe Hill Farm, Howard was tied for 32nd place after receiving a score of 51.3 penalties points in the Dressage phase. However, she moved 10 spots up the leaderboard after adding no jumping faults and just 0.8 time faults during the challenging Cross Country phase, which included 30 jumping efforts.

A faultless Show Jumping performance allowed Howard to finish on her Cross Country score, which not only secured her 12th place finish, but also made her the top placing North American, and the most successful Canadian at Badminton in recent history.

"Every time you compete you hope for the best and hope it goes your way. It went our way here," said Howard. "Riddle Master's strength is as a jumper and he did a great job out there. We have some work to do on our Dressage, but at the end of the day we got it done. I feel really good about where we finished. We competed against some really tough competitors, but we just went out there and did what we do best."

BBC coverage of Howard's Cross Country performance can be viewed here.
