Equine Rehab Center Explosion Kills horse and worker

Gainesville.com is reporting that one person and a horse were killed, and a second person was seriously injured, when a hyperbaric chamber exploded at an equine rehabilitation center, Kesmarc Farm, in Ocala, Florida.

The worker who was killed, Erica Marshall, 28, had been running the hyperbaric chamber for a couple of years.  Hyperbaric chambers, or Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy,  are used to promote healing in high pressure, pure oxygen environment.  The technology has become more common in equine medicine.

The horse being treated, which had shoes on, apparently kicked while in the chamber causing a spark which ignited the pure oxygen.

The second person who was injured was at the facility to observe the treatment method.
