European Youngster Cup: North American Riders Shine in First and Second Rounds

A total of five North American riders qualified to participate in this year's European Youngster Cup (EYC)  for jumping riders between the ages of 16 and 26.  Two additional North American riders were invited to participate as wild-cards by the event organizers.

 

They are:  

Reed Kessler, Charlotte Jacobs, Caitlin Ziegler, Audrey Coulter, Cayla Richards, and Katherine Dinan from the U.S. along with David Arcand from Canada.  All competed in the Artisan Farms Young Riders Grand Prix Series which were held at HITS Thermal on the West Coast and at the Winter Equestrian Festival in Wellington, Florida for the East Coast circuit.

 

The EYC finals this year  are being held for the first time in conjunction with the five FEI World Cup Finals in Leipzig, Germany.

 

In the first two legs of the competion, North American riders have had an impressive showing.  The first class was held on Wednesday, and three U.S. riders finished in second, third and fourth places.  The class was won by German rider Alexander Hufenstuhl, while Katherine Dinan claimed second place riding Vancouver, Cayla Richards finished in third with Valentine, and Caitlin Zeigler took the fourth place ribbon on VDL Groep Camara.

 

In Thursday's class, Audrey Coulter topped the podium.  She rode Rodenburgh's California to the first place finish with a clear round in the time of 47.40 seconds, while Caitlin Ziegler finished second riding Valencia in a time of 49.24.
