Results of the investigation to uncover cause of death for the two horses which collapsed and died at Newbury race course last weekend are expected to be released on Thursday.

The Guardian reports that the British Horse-racing Authority wants to see the results before making any further statements.

Additional tests are being done and have delayed the findings which had been expected yesterday.

Meanwhile, racecourse authorities examined 40-year-old plans which showed power cables running to the old grandstand which had been replaced in 1992.  The Southern Electric Board then dug up and removed part of that old cable for forensic examination.

In addition, water available in the paddock was taken for testing since there was some early speculation that it might have been tainted.  At this point, however, the general consensus is that the horses with steel shoes suffered the worst shocks while the ones with aluminum plates were not so violently effected.

Racing is expected to resume Friday if all safety checks reveal no further threat.
