The Fédération Equestre Internationale (FEI) headquarters has been located in Lausanne, Switzerland since 1991.  It is fitting that the governing body of equestrian sports makes its base in the same city that has hosted the Olympic organizing committee since 1915.

Over the past few years, the work of the FEI has been quickly expanding; as International equestrian competition grows, so grows the necessity for increasing centralized administration.   With that growth arises the need for additional facilities to accommodate those who organize and manage the myriad of details involved in governing and promoting horse-sport world wide.  Hence, the purchase and overhaul of new facilities.

The upgrade of the new FEI building was begun in 2008.  Not only has the headquarters been modernized, it has also been redesigned to meet or exceed current energy and communications needs.  It has been built to the strict standards of Swiss MINERGIE® which requires reduction of energy consumption and decreased reliance on fossil fuels.

The FEI staff moved into the new building in February, 2011.

May 6, 2011 marks the official inauguration of the building:  The HM King Hussein I Building, named in memory of the father of current FEI President, HRH Princess Haya of Jordan.  HRH Princess Haya generously donated a large portion of the funds to purchase and refurbish the building.

The FEI will be housed on the ground floor and occupy three additional floors.  The top floors will be rented out, bringing in an estimated CHF 600,000 of additional income for the organization which will be invested in equestrian sport.
