Grand Champions Polo Club Hosts Sixth Annual Polo Gear Invitational This Weekend

WELLINGTON, FL-April 25, 2013---After last weekend's successful spring season-opener, Grand Champions Polo Club will host the sixth annual Polo Gear Invitational.

Five teams will compete in Friday's semifinals beginning at 10 a.m. to earn a berth in Sunday's final.

The teams, rated from 10 to 12 goals, are Longfield, Pony Express, ELG, Palm House and Power Horse.

Some of the top pros competing are 8-goaler Nic Roldan, 6-goalers Tomas Goti, Tommy Biddle and Kris Kampsen and 5-goalers Lucas Lalor, Carlucho Arellano and Brandon Phillips.

Avery Chapman and Kris Kampsen are coming off last weekend's victory in the Palm City Open, the first of six tournaments of the 2013 Grand Champions spring schedule.

Chapman and Kampsen were members of the winning ELG/Psycho Bunny team along with MVP Andrew Seibert and Jeff Hall, who has returned to Texas for the polo season.

The tournament will feature two women players, Melissa Ganzi of Power Horse and Hannah Buchan of Longfield. Ganzi, Piaget team captain, is coming off the 26-high goal season.

The teams are:

Longfield, 12 goals, Grant Ganzi, coming off his USPA President's Cup win; Hannah Buchan, Nic Roldan, Joey Casey.

Pony Express, 10, Justin Daniels, Bob Daniels, Tomas Goti, Pancho Eddy.

ELG, 12, Marc Ganzi, coming off the high goal season with Audi; Avery Chapman, Lucas Lalor and Carlucho Arellano.

Palm House, 13, Glenn Straub, Tommy Biddle, Nano Gracida, JJ Celis.

Power Horse, 12, Walter Scherb, Melissa Ganzi, Kris Kampsen, Brandon Phillips.

In Friday's opening action, Power Horse plays Palm House at 10 a.m. at Palm Beach Polo Field 8 next to Grand Champions.

Later in the afternoon, Longfield plays Pony Express at 4:30 p.m.; the loser of Game 1 plays ELG at 5:15 p.m. and the winner of Game 1 plays ELG at 6 p.m. All three games are on Field 1 at Grand Champions.

The winners advance into Sunday's final after the consolation game, both at times still to be determined.

The other spring tournaments are the May 3-5 USPA Spring Challenge; May 10-12 USPA Sun Cup; May 17-19 USPA Eastern Challenge; and May 24-27 Memorial by Piaget.

INFORMATION: There are great field side views for tournament action at the home base of pro teams Audi and Piaget. Everyone is welcome to watch polo in a relaxed atmosphere during the spring and fall tournament season and other special events including the International Cup in November, Buzz Welker Memorial Junior Tournament in March, Women's Championship Tournament and Gay Polo League International Tournament, both in April.
