Bridgehampton, NY -  Jordyn Rose Freedman, of Longmeadow, MA, topped a field of 29 entries to win the prestigious Bright Side Farm Equitation Championship at the 41st annual Hampton Classic Horse Show. Lucy Deslauriers of New York, NY, placed second and Mckayla Langmeier of East Granby, CT, finished third.

Freedman secured the win on Finnick with two consistently high scores receiving an 88 in the final round and the second best score of 87 in the first. Since the top 15 riders returned in reverse order of merit, Freedman went 14th, which was not her favorite position.

 

"I watched five people go before me and I felt a lot of pressure because typically in the second round I get really nervous. I was worried about being consistent, but my horse wasn't fazed by anything. I owe him everything. I couldn't be happier with him. He is very special to me," said Freedman. "Winning this class is really important to me and very special. I am really thankful for my trainer and Finnick."

 

Freedman is trained by Linda Langmeier. They have been together since the young rider competed in the short stirrup division, so she had sage advice before the 16-year-old went into the ring.

 

"Typically in the second round, Jordyn can get a little anxious, so my advice was to take a deep breath and go have fun," said Langmeier. "I have been training her since she was 8 years old; she's like my other daughter. This win is huge; this is her first major win. I couldn't be happier. She's just an amazing child."

  

Lauren Fischer and Tosca Du Feugre Win Carolex Jr/A-O Jumper Classic

With the win in the $15,000 Carolex Junior/Amateur-Owner Jumper Classic on Tosca Du Feugre, owned by Cheryl Fischer, 18-year-old Lauren Fischer completed a hat trick winning three classics in the last three days at the Hampton Classic Horse Show. On Thursday, the Bedford Hills, NY, resident took the blue ribbon in the $10,000 Junior Jumper Classic and on Friday, she won the $10,000 T&R Development Junior/Amateur-Owner Welcome Stake.

 

"Winning three Classics in a row is something that has never happened to me before so I couldn't believe it," said Fischer on her victory in the Carolex. "It's just so exciting. I was a little worried; the riders in the class were very competitive, I was just kind of hoping to put it together for the hat trick."

  

Stephanie Danhakl and Enough Said Named Grand Amateur/Owner Hunter Champions

In the Anne Aspinall ring, Stephanie Danhakl and Enough Said won the Grand Amateur-Owner Hunter Championship and were presented with the Good Sportsmanship Trophy. They earned the title by winning the Amateur-Owner 3'3", 18-35, Hunter Championship. She was also the Reserve Champion with Quest.  Danhakl also captured the Amateur-Owner, 3'6", 18-35, Hunter Championship with First Light and the Reserve Championship with Golden Rule. This is the second title for Danhakl, the Pacific Palisades, CA, resident also won in 2014.
