From QuarterHorseNews.com article:

"Hantaviruses are a group of viruses carried by rodents, according to a web site fact sheet. One of the viruses, Sin Nombre, is found in deer mice prevalent in Canada and western portions of the United States. Deer mice excrete the virus in their urine, saliva and droppings. A person may be exposed to Hantavirus Pulmonary Syndrome (HPS) by breathing contaminated dust after disturbing or cleaning rodent droppings or nests or by living or working in rodent-infested settings."
