David Oliynyk and Generous capture the $5,000 Devoucoux Hunter Prix Qualifier & Wild Card at HITS-on-the-Hudson

SAUGERTIES, NEW YORK — In a dress rehearsal for next week’s Diamond Mills $500,000 Hunter Prix Final, Hunter riders called the Strongid® C 2X Grand Prix Stadium home in Saturday’s $5,000 Devoucoux Hunter Prix Qualifier & Wild Card at HITS-on-the-Hudson in Saugerties, New York.

Forty-two horse-and-rider-combinations showed over Rian Beals’ first-round course as the top 12 returned for the second round. When the class was complete, it was David Oliynyk of Plainville, Massachusetts and Lori Gaudet’s Generous who took the blue.

“I just gave [Generous] a couple of months off and this is his second show back,” said Oliynyk. “I am obviously pretty happy that we were able to come out on top with the big class next weekend.”

Oliynyk and Generous will join fellow Hunter riders in the Diamond Mills $500,000 Hunter Prix Final as part of the long-awaited Pfizer Million Weekend.

“I think showing in the Grand Prix ring today will be very beneficial if I am fortunate enough to make it to the third and fourth rounds next weekend,” added Oliynyk.

Second-place honors were awarded to Kelly Farmer of Keswick, Virginia aboard David Glefke’s Red Sky and the yellow ribbon went home with Bill Ellis of Ocala, Florida aboard Cara Garito’s Abundance.

“I loved showing in the Grand Prix ring today,” said Ellis. “It is not very often that hunters get to show in a great big ring like this. You can really show off the horses’ gallop.”

Rounding out the top five in Saturday’s class was Dana Hart Callahan aboard Carly Snyder’s Kalifornia Dreamin’ in fourth and David Wilbur in the irons of Marianne Huss’ Cameron.

The field is now set for next weekend’s Diamond Mills $500,000 Hunter Prix Final. The opening two rounds will take place Saturday, September 10 and will feature 75 of the top junior, amateur and professional hunter riders in the country. The top starters are set to return for the final two rounds Sunday, September 11.

Upon completion of the Hunter Prix Final, two-time Olympic Gold Medalist McLain Ward will look to defend his Pfizer Million Champion honors. The top High-Performance riders in the world will join him in riding for $350,000 in first-place prize money.

Following the Pfizer $1 Million Grand Prix, Motown legends The Temptations will take the stage and perform before a packed house at HITS-on-the-Hudson. For more information or to purchase tickets, please visit www.HitsShows.com.
