Every year, Can-Am and Just Add Horses present the Environment Trophy to a Canadian Stable which is helping to raise the bar in environmental awareness.
Any stable or farm in Canada is eligible for this award.
This year the award committee, which consists of industry leaders and the Ontario Equestrian Federation, has selected Honoro Bay Riding Stable on Manitoulin Island to receive the trophy.
Manitoulin is one of the largest fresh water islands in the world. The facilities' owner, Kyla Jansen, was very aware of the special location of her stables and of the positive environmental impact she could make when planning the barn.
Honoro Bay Riding Stable was built in 2007 and is state of the art. The 26-stall barn was enhanced recently with a solar roof system.
The facility boasts over 200 acres of trails and hosts summer day camps along with both English and Western horse shows. Recently it has added an overnight adventure program.
Jansen is an award winning dressage rider and graduate of the Wolverine Farrier School. She has put her training to work by recycling and creating unique, innovative bridle hooks, tack room and fire pit hardware from horse shoes.
Ross Millar of Can-Am and Bill Milne, president of Just Add Horse, which produces eco-friendly horse care products, expressed pride in presenting the 2011 'Environment Trophy' to Kyla Jansen and her family.
