ARMY EQUITATION SCHOOL TO PROVIDE DUBLIN GUARD OF HONOUR
FOR OLYMPIC TORCH

THE Army Equitation School will provide a guard of honour for the Olympic torch as it is carried to the stage on Stephen’s Green by Ireland's Chef de Mission for the London Olympic Games, Sonia O'Sullivan, as part of the final leg of Olympic torch relay in Dublin
tomorrow (Wednesday).

Officers from the Army Equitation School have represented Ireland at nine separate Olympic Games. One of the two riders providing the Guard of Honour will be Capt. Geoff Curran, who represented Ireland in three day eventing at the last Olympic Games in Hong Kong.

The other outrider will be Capt. Brian Curran-Cournane who is a currently a member of Ireland's Eventing High Performance squad, who are preparing for the 2012 games.

Horse Sport Ireland Chairman Joe Walsh said that it was very appropriate for the Equitation School to have a key involvement in the Ceremony.

"The Army Equitation School is an iconic institution and since its foundation in 1926 it has been represented at nine different Olympic Games. It is a great achievement by OCI President Pat Hickey to get the torch to Dublin and I'm sure tomorrow will be a great day," he said.

Natalya Coyle, who will represent Ireland in modern Pentathlon at the games, will also be a torch bearer tomorrow. Natalya came to the discipline of Pentathlon through the Irish Pony Club, which along with Pentathlon Ireland is also an affiliate of Horse Sport Ireland.

The torch relay will be live on RTE television from 11am tomorrow morning.
