BENS LADY LUX (ISH) TAKES INAUGURAL IRISH BREEDERS' CLASSIC

BENS Lady Lux (ISH) 2007 brown mare by Lux Z (HANN) out of Leading Edge (ISH) by Cavalier Royale (HOLST) bred by Ann Marie Blessington from Tober, Granford, Co. Longford and ridden by Harry Marshall took the inaugural Irish Breeders Classic in Barnadown Co. Wexford last Sunday.

The Classic which boasted some €50,000 in prizemoney was open to all Irish-bred five and six year olds. The level of prize money made the class the most valuable young horse class in the world. Five per cent of the prize fund will go to breeders with the winning breeders prize being €1,000, which is provided by Horse Sport Ireland.

In total there were 86 entries with 30 combinations making it through to the final.

Horse Sport Ireland CEO Damian McDonald said that the organisers of the event deserved huge credit.

"After its successful inauguration I am sure that this event will be here to stay. The industry owes a debt of gratitude to the Irish Breeders Classic organiser Ronan Rothwell who had the courage to take on this project and make it such a success. The venue, Barnadown Showjumping, also did a fantastic job" he said.

"This new competition, along with the Irish Sport Horse Studbook series and the young horse classes at the RDS make Ireland one of the most attractive countries in which to produce young show jumping horses" he added.
