BREEN FIFTH IN BELGIAN GRAND PRIX

TIPPERARY'S Shane Breen took fifth place in this afternoon's (Sunday) Grand Prix at Lummen, Belgium's biggest outdoor show jumping event.

Riding the Dutch-bred mare Zarnita, Breen was one of five double clears in the 13-horse jump off, and saw fellow Irish rider Clem McMahon with the Irish-bred Touchdown mare Cortaflex Touchable take eighth place after a single fault in the second round.

Ireland's Edward Doyle finished in 12th overall, with two fences down in the jump off aboard the Kildare-bred stallion Samgemjee.

The competition was won by Stefanie van den Brink from the Netherlands, with the Dutch-bred gelding Wapper.

Meanwhile, two hours' drive away in Moorsele, Belgium, the Irish Para Dressage team of Eilish Byrne, James Dwyer, Rosemary Gaffney and Geraldine Savage finished in second place, just under two points behind the Netherlands.

Ireland's pony riders added to their laurels at Fontainebleau, France, after claiming the Nations' Cup for the third year in a row on Saturday, when Co. Clare's Tom Foley today won the Leading Rider award in the CSIOP division, with Darragh Ryan taking the CSIP Leading Rider award, both riders' accolades clinched by fourth-place finishes in their respective Grands Prix this afternoon.

In Arezzo in Italy, Peter Smyth and the Irish-bred Victoria Rose finished sixth in the Silver Tour Grand Prix tonight.
