BREEN WIN WRAPS UP SUCCESSFUL GRAND PRIX WEEKEND

TIPPERARY'S Trevor Breen claimed Ireland's only Grand Prix victory this weekend, but Irish top ten places were numerous across the globe.

Breen's win came in the two-star show at Strazeele, France, where he slotted Karen Swann's Adventure de Kanaan into pole position in a nine-horse jump-off tonight (Sunday), with three quarters of a second in hand over French challenger Marc Dilasser.

In Valencia in Spain, Clones rider Clem McMahon took equal fourth in the Grand Prix tonight aboard Pacino, with one fence down in the jump-off denying him a bid for the trophy, which was won by Germany's René Tebbel and Light On.

In Dortmund's three-star event in Germany, fellow Tipperary rider Denis Lynch had a Grand Prix eighth place on Thomas Straumann's All Inclusive NRW, while at Follonica in Italy Thomas Ryan took a seventh place with the Irish-bred Cruising gelding Cruise on Clover.

At the two-star Grand Prix at Nice in France, Mark McAuley claimed an eighth with Isco de Amoranda, a faultless second round not quite fast enough to catch Australia's first-placed Edwina Tops-Alexander and Mel d'Argencies.

At Wellington, Florida's, four-star show, Co. Down's Conor Swail was seventh in the WEF Challenge Cup with Oceane de Nantuel, while in Saturday night's Grand Prix Tipperary's Kevin Babington finished fifth on the Irish-bred gelding Mark Q, with Galway's Andrew Bourns taking seventh place on another Irish-bred horse, the Clover Hill gelding Roundthorn Madios.
