Wednesday’s opening day of the Dublin Horse Show saw a win for an Irish rider in the first international class, while an Irish bred horse won the feature, Sport Ireland Classic.

Cian O’Connor led an Irish whitewash in the Speed Stakes sponsored by Avery Crest Ski Chalets, taking victory with Aramis 573. Bertram Allen guided Quiet Easy 4 into runner-up spot, while Olympic-bound Greg Broderick finished third with Zuidam.

Earlier Co Tyrone’s Peter Smyth was the winner of the first National competition of the show. He guided The Irish Sport Horse, Templepatrick Welcome Limmerick, to victory in the Horse Sport Ireland six-year-old qualifier.

The afternoon highlight at the RDS was the Sport Ireland Classic, where The Irish Sport Horse Limestone Grey grabbed the winner’s prize with Italy's Lorenzo De Luca. Anthony Condon was the top-placed Irish rider in eighth with Aristio, while Bertram Allen took 10th spot with Romanov.

The opening day action drew to a close in the Simmonscourt arena, where Michael Pender won the Connolly’s Red Mills international 7 & 8-year-old qualifier with HHS Hercules.

Thursday’s action at the Dublin Horse Show includes the Horse Sport Ireland five-year-old qualifier and HSI three-year-old Loose Performance Championship.

 

In the main arena, the Speed Derby will be the first international class of the day just after 1pm, followed by the Speed Stakes and the Angelsea Stakes.
