KURTEN THIRD IN PARIS SPEED CLASS

FRENCH-based Irish rider Jessica Kurten took third place in the speed class on the first day of Paris's big five-star show in the Grand Palais this afternoon (Friday), riding Stal Poels and James Paterson-Robinson's bay gelding Vincente.

Antrim-born Kurten, who won her first Grand Prix in over a year with Vincente at Amsterdam in January, was just under a second off the pace of Swiss winner Janika Sprunger and JL's Komparse today, but collected 3,450 euro in prize money for her place.

Cork's Billy Twomey also featured in today's top ten, slotting Sue Davies's chestnut mare Tinka's Serenade into eighth overall.

Kurten and Twomey are joined at Paris by Tipperary's Denis Lynch, while Alex Duffy and Alenander Butler represent Ireland in the under-25 classes.

Duffy, riding Antello Z, placed seventh in today's Under 25 two phase competition, which was won by Italy's Roberto Previtali and Sander.

Paris's five-star Grand Prix takes place on Sunday afternoon.
